What ultraviolet light is
Ultraviolet occupies the part of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths shorter than visible light (400 nm) and longer than X-rays (100 nm). It is invisible, and the 100–400 nm band divides into UV-A (315–400 nm), UV-B (280–315 nm) and UV-C (200–280 nm). Germicidal effect peaks at 253.7 nm.
How it works
UV light damages the DNA and RNA of micro-organisms so that they can no longer reproduce. Because no chemical is added, nothing is left in the water to affect taste or odour and no by-products are formed.
Features
- No chemicals, so no taste, odour or residue
- Short contact time, so a small footprint
- Simple to operate with low running cost
- Performance maintained by lamp replacement alone
